Revisions to Remix

Please review the third column in the scope & sequence document located on the Home Page to see the revisions within a lesson plan context. As this is a partial build only some of the revisions have been created for viewing.

Revised Remix Lesson 1 Instructional Video with CC (EAL Consideration)

The following is an example of enabling closed captioning in line with the consideration of students from EAL backgrounds. The application that was used (as I did not want to publish on Youtube which has the CC ability embedded) was VEED.

The above image on the right shows how VEED automatically generates closed captioning for videos. Though I had the script prepared I wanted to test how well this application works for busy teachers. Despite some minor errors I would argue that the closed captioning with VEED was a success and could be used by teachers in a variety of contexts (see video on left – you can make this full screen).

Revised Remix Options for Low Bandwidth (Accessibility consideration)

Please note though it is not shown here (as I didn’t want to upload to Youtube), the video *would* be accessible from a variety of resolutions for those with low bandwidth. Lesson 1 had several changes to account for this consideration (such as lower resolution images and smaller vode files) but as this is a partial build they were not created.

The example below is from Lesson 3 and shows the differences in activity when accessibilty is taken into consideration for those with low bandwidth. Please read the discussion in my report which notes the loss of digital interactivity with low bandwidth and an increase instead on the power of the teacher-student relationship to convey the information and enhance the learning experience for students.

Revised Remix H5P Variability (After feedback and further research)

As discussed in the report an increase in H5P variability was important to tap into the affordances of this particular learning tool. Some new activities were created as a result of the research discussed in the report.

The above video is the same instructional video from lesson 1 however it now has interactivity embedded within it. After research the focus was to create a more personalised learning experience with student choice (for more information please see repport).

The above hot spot mapping activity is an example of another student choice formative task. This is an option instead of completing an interactive video (from the original build). It also requires less bandwidth than the interactive video and may be more appropriate from some teachers/students who struggle with accessing large bandwidths.
